Activity 3.1 – Human Population
Activity 3.1 – Human Population
More Developed: Japan
The Country is Japan
The Birth Rate in Japan is 7 per one thousand population
The Death Rate in Japan is 7 per one thousand population
The population growth rate is -0.4. The growth rate is decreasing because Japan's population is also decreasing.
Life expectancy for males is 81, Life expectancy for females is 87
The fertility rate in Japan is 1.3 in 2020
The Gross National Income (GNI) of Japan is $43,760
Less Developed: Timor-Leste
The Country is Timor-Leste
The Birth Rate in Timor-Leste is 26 per one thousand population
The Death Rate in Timor-Leste is 8 per one thousand population
The population growth rate is 1.9
Life expectancy for males is 68, Life expectancy for females is 82
The fertility rate in Timor-Leste is 3.6 in 2020
The Gross National Income (GNI) of Timor-Leste is $4,490
Explanation and Understanding:
Japan and Timor-Leste are both located in Asia. Timor-Leste is located in Southeast Asia while Japan is in east Asia. Population is one of the determining factors that makes a society, "is a group of interbreeding individuals (individuals of the same species) living and interacting in a given area at a given time."(Mutiti S, pg.2). The "population" of Japan (125.4 million) is enormous when compared to that of Timor-Leste (1.3 million). The birth rate in Timor-Leste (26 per thousand) is incredibly higher than Japan (8 per thousand) which is probably one of the reasons that the population growth rate in Japan is negative. The rate of natural increase (population growth rate) for the entire world is at 1 percent, Japan is at -0.4 percent, and Timor-Leste is at 1.9. The life expectancy is higher in Japan for both males and females than in Timor-Leste and it is higher than the world average. The Fertility rate on the other hand is higher in Timor-Leste than in Japan and it is much higher than Earth's average. Gross National Income (GNI) is one of the determining factors that tends to change all of the other statistics talked about. The GNI is much higher in Japan ($43,760) than in Timor-Leste ($4,490). Not only does this mean that Japan is a more developed country and Timor-Leste is a less developed country but it also shows us that the common trends among world data is true. Richer countries tend to have less children but they live longer while poorer locations have more children but die sooner on average. The average Gross National Income (GNI) is (17,535) which is more than three times the amount Timor-Leste has to work with.
