Activity 3.2.1 – Natural Resources Review

Image
Natural Resources Concept Map The main topic on my concept map is Natural Resources. The two main points connected to the green natural resources bubble and both Renewable-Non-Renewable Resources. These two are the most important distinction we can make about natural resources because if a item or object is Non-Renewable then their will only ever be a limited amount. This is because all Non-Renewable objects cannot be quickly replaced (located in top right yellow square). Non-Renewable Resources are also inorganic in nature. Despite Renewable and Non-Renewables differences, both are typically reusable which will help stop overuse in the future. In the video Exploring Natural Resources the speaker (Nina Keck) states "One of the common challenges we face today in being carful not to overuse many of the earths renewable resources (Keck 5:57). This is obviously true because the overconsumption of any resource will lead to a decrease in the amount of said materials. Wood, fish and or...

Activity 3.1 – Human Population

Activity 3.1 – Human Population More Developed: Japan The Country is Japan The Birth Rate in Japan is 7 per one thousand population The Death Rate in Japan is 7 per one thousand population The population growth rate is -0.4. The growth rate is decreasing because Japan's population is also decreasing. Life expectancy for males is 81, Life expectancy for females is 87 The fertility rate in Japan is 1.3 in 2020 The Gross National Income (GNI) of Japan is $43,760 Less Developed: Timor-Leste The Country is Timor-Leste The Birth Rate in Timor-Leste is 26 per one thousand population The Death Rate in Timor-Leste is 8 per one thousand population The population growth rate is 1.9 Life expectancy for males is 68, Life expectancy for females is 82 The fertility rate in Timor-Leste is 3.6 in 2020 The Gross National Income (GNI) of Timor-Leste is $4,490 Explanation and Understanding: Japan and Timor-Leste are both located in Asia. Timor-Leste is located in Southeast Asia while Japan is in east...

Activity 2.3 – Biosphere and Interconnections

Activity 2.3 – Biosphere and Interconnections Chapter 4: Unit of Energy and Energy Transformation and  Energy In an Ecosystem Chapter 7: The Value of Biodiversity and The Organization of Life Chapter 8: Biomes and Ecozones My first Concept Map has the “Energy” concept colored in green and placed in the middle because I wanted to show the importance of that circle. All of the other main concepts are also located inside of a green circle. The two main ideas are “Energy Transformations” and “Units of Energy”. The Two units of energy I connected were joules and calories. On the left side, “Energy Transformations" is separated into four distinct categories, Thermal, Kinetic, Light and Chemical Energy. Also, I made sure to take note that light energy transformed into chemical energy through photosynthesis. My Second Concept Map revolves around Biodiversity. I separated “Biodiversity” into two different sections, one about organization (how humans organize life) and the other about...

Activity 2.2.1 – My daily water use

My Water Usage Water Bills: 6733 October 2022, 10473 December 2022, 8977 January 2023. 6733 + 10473 + 8977 = 26183 /3 Months = 8727.66 7  gallons/month for my whole family 8727.667/5 = 1745.533 gallons/person/month 1745.5/30 = 58.2 gallons per day  for one person Online Calculators: Water Footprint Calculator: URL: watercalculator.org  1187 Gallons/Day per person using the virtual water option, 106 Gallon/Day Using basic options (No Footprint) Water Use Calculator: URL: https://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/conservation/water-use-calculator 93 Gallons/Day per person Conclusion:  My family, in reality, uses about half of the predicted outcomes that I received from the water usage calculators. This is great news because that means our family will not only be paying less than predicted but we are not using as much water as expected. I believe this is due to us not watering our plants or grass, not to mention that our sprinklers are off. The average water use per ...
